KARACHI:

A young woman was shot dead by her brother on the pretext of honour at an apartment on Clifton’s Marine Drive on Saturday.

According to the police, the suspect, Hasnain Qamar, had shot his sister, 19-year-old Noorul Huda, in the head.

The gunshot drew the attention of area residents, who called the police. The Madadgar 15 police arrested Qamar on their arrival and confiscated the gun from his possession.

The deceased was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Boat Basic SHO Pir Shabbir told The Express Tribune that the body was handed over to the family after the completion of medico-legal formalities, adding that Qamar, a government employee, had given contradictory statements to the police about Huda’s murder.

Boat Basin SIO Haq Nawaz said that Qamar told the police Huda was friends with a man in their neighbourhood, and he had engaged in arguments with her on the matter several time.

The suspect claimed he was enraged upon seeing Huda with her friend on Saturday and shot her in anger, Nawaz said, adding that the police was investigating the case from every angle.
