‘Supply of clean drinking water top priority’

Says WASA performance being closely monitored

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has said the government was taking steps to ensure provision of clean drinking water to citizens the performance of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) was being closely monitored.

She expressed these views during a meeting with WASA Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz on Friday to discuss issues regarding clean drinking water.

WASA MD Syed Zahid Aziz apprised the provincial minister of the measures to ensure the supply of clean drinking water to citizens and the performance of WASA. The MD delivered a presentation on cleanliness of drainage points and details of collection at pumping points.

Country warned of serious water crisis

The health minister said: “Contaminated water is causing many diseases and damaging public health. The performance of WASA is being reviewed on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar.”

She added that the government was taking necessary steps to ensure provision of clean drinking water to citizens. “A comprehensive strategy needs to be developed to stop the wastage of water in commercial areas.”

The government will increase the capacity of WASA, the provincial minister further said.
