KARACHI:

The Edhi Foundation's emergency helpline, 115, was reported to be not functioning in Karachi on Wednesday impacting the foundation's ambulance service.

The helpline is down due to a fault in PTCL's cable lines, and repair work is underway, said Edhi spokesperson Muhammad Bilal. The phone services are expected to be restored in a day, the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson further said citizens of Karachi can contact at 02132331813 in case of an emergency. "We have given out our mobile numbers to the media but citizens are facing problems. Work is also getting affected," he said.

The Edhi Foundation is among the first emergency responders in the city, and citizens and authorities alike rely on the philanthropic organisation for their ambulance and rescue services in emergency situations.

The recent spell of monsoon rain in Karachi strained the already crumbling infrastructure and citizens had to deal with power outages, suspension of internet and phone services, amid reports of faulty wires and cable disruptions.

Added to this, there were reports of inundated roads, overflowing sewerage water, and road blocks as rainwater accumulated on the streets.
