Two robbers killed, cop injured in shoot-out

Incident will be registered at the Bani police station

RAWALPINDI:

At least two robbers were killed while one managed to flee in a shoot-out after they attempted to rob a store in Rawalpindi on Tuesday went awry. A police official and the shopkeeper were also injured during the exchange of fire. Rawal Division SP Rai Mazhar Iqbal told The Express Tribune that three armed robbers had barged into a store. They held it up and started looting it. On receiving information, a police squad rushed to the spot. When the robbers saw the police, they started firing at them. The police retaliated, killing one of the robbers on the spot and injuring another while their accomplice fled. A police official said that Head Constable Kafeel and a shopkeeper sustained bullet injuries. Police rushed the injured people to the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) where the injured robber succumbed to the wounds. Meanwhile, police said they were searching for the third robber. SP Iqbal said that the two suspected robbers appear to be locals. However, the police have approached NADRA to establish their identities. Iqbal added that a case of the incident will be registered at the Bani police station.
