KARACHI:

Karachi's weather turned pleasant on Saturday when many areas of the city received drizzle and light rain.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the city is expected to be partly cloudy Saturday whereas light rain or drizzle is expected in the next 24 hours.

Due to the weekly lockdown in the port city because of the Covid-19 pandemic, all business centres and markets are closed. People have turned to cattle markets to buy sacrificial animals during the rainy weather ahead of Eidul Azha.

Power outages have been reported from many areas of Karachi. Accidents have also taken place in various parts of the city due to slippery roads leaving several people injured.

On June 24, the PMD forecasted another monsoon spell for Karachi starting Saturday, with light to moderate showers occurring in the city between Sunday and Monday.

In this regard, chief meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz said that a low air pressure system could form in the Indian state of Gujarat on Friday (today), which could later cause monsoon rains in the port city. As a result, Sindh is expected to witness its third spell of monsoon rains from Saturday, after the system enters the province via the Rann of Kutch.

Meanwhile, sea breeze is expected to remain suspended in the metropolis.
