Armed robbers hold cattle merchants, buyers hostage in Surjani Town, injure security guard

KARACHI:

COver Rs5 million in cash was snatched from citizens and a sacrificial animal was killed during an exchange of fire when armed robbers stormed into a cattle market in Surjani Town late on Wednesday night.

According to the police, six armed men held cattle merchants and buyers hostage and were confronted by security guards at the market. In the subsequent exchange of fire, a security guard, identified as Muhammad Ali, was injured while a cow was hit by a bullet and died.

Witnesses claimed the robbers held everyone present at the market hostage for up to 15 minutes as they continued shooting, spreading panic among those present.

The police stated that the area had been cordoned off while a search was under way to locate the culprits.

Separately, the Malir district police arrested three suspects and recovered 14 stolen goats and a vehicle from their possession during a raid near Northern Bypass.

The suspects, identified as Abdul Ghaffar, Yasin and Nazeer, had allegedly stolen sacrificial goats from Gadap Town. Cases were registered against them and further investigation is ongoing.
