To further improve their capacity to control street crime, police in the federal capital will be equipped with drones, said Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry.
Speaking to the media on Monday, the minister said that the move is part of the government’s plan to upgrade civilian defence capabilities.
He said Pakistan’s first civil defence research and development project has commenced under which 10 police stations in the federal capital will be redesigned.
Equipping police with drones for effective patrolling was part of the said project, he added.

Fawad further said that he was excited over the launch of an electric car charging station in the federal capital. In a tweet, the federal minister said the car charging facility will be set up on Jinnah Avenue. Previously, a car charging station in the city had been set up in Kohsar market.
Fawad said this was another target of the Ministry of Science and Technology to encourage e-vehicles as future transportation.
Eid security
Separately, in a high-level meeting chaired by Islamabad Police Inspector General (IGP) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan, security arrangements for the federal capital on Eidul Azha were discussed.
During the meeting, he said that a security plan should be drawn up for the religious festival.
He said that all security arrangements will be monitored by DIG Operations Waqaruddin Syed.
Further, the IGP directed that cattle markets will be set up across the district while social distancing protocols will be strictly observed during Eid. Those arriving for congregational prayers on the day will be provided with face masks while other standard operating procedures will be prescribed by the government will be strictly implemented.

He added that residents coming for prayers will have to pass through walk-through gates before entering mosques and imambargahs.
Further, an awareness campaign will be launched especially for citizens who head to their native towns and villages on Eid.
“When going home to your village, make sure you make proper security arrangements for your home,” Aamir said as he directed officials of the Counter-Terrorism Department, Falcon and Eagle squads to enhance their patrolling throughout the city.
Further, officials will be deployed at all large shopping centres, markets to ensure SOPs are fully implemented.
