LAHORE:

A writ petition filed in Lahore High Court has sought a case of sedition and blasphemy against a man, accusing him of sharing wrong interpretation of religious teachings and the country’s constitution on social media.

Petitioner Basharat Ali also sought setting aside of an order of an additional district and sessions judge following a report that the FIR had already been registered against the accused and the second case could not be lodged.

He contended that the accused was operating an account on Youtube and Facebook wherein he shared views due to which the religious feelings of Muslims were allegedly hurt.

Blasphemy case gets a new twist

The petitioner said the FIA report mentioned that the allegations were the same as already included in the FIR. However, he said, the FIR was registered under section 11 of PECA 2016, whereas the application filed by him alleged the commission of offences under sections 295-A and 298-C of PPC, Article 6 of the constitution and section 10 of PECA.

The petitioner prayed to the court to set aside the order passed by the additional district and sessions judge and issue directives to the authorities concerned to register a case against the accused under the sections mentioned in the petition.
