The 23rd meeting of the Government College University (GCU) academic council approved the new assessment policy for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes involving ‘open book and internet’ examinations as the educational institutes shift to online education amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The meeting held on Saturday approved amendments to the university's examination procedure, admission rules and courses of various academic programmes. The academic council also approved the new course of "Translation of the Holy Quran" to be taught to all the Muslim students at BA/BSc (Hons) level, while non-Muslim students would be taught “Ethical teachings of world religions” as its replacement.
It was further decided that intermediate pre-medical students would be allowed to apply for BS in Computer Science programme with the condition to study the two deficiency courses of Mathematics after admission that each comprises three credit hours. Moreover, the council set maximum duration of six years to complete the Hons degree.
In exceptional cases a concession of one more year would be awarded to the students.
