ISLAMABAD:

Turkish Ambassador Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul and Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz on Wednesday planted 251 trees in the Ankara Park near Lakeview Chowk.

Each of the trees signified the 251 people who were killed in the July 15, 2016, attempted coup in Turkey.

Ambassador Yurdakul shared the agony of his countrymen during the attempted coup, which is now marked as Turkey’s Democratic Day.

He added that the day can never be forgotten.

Mayor Aziz said that terrorists can never undermine or deter the morale and spirit of Muslims, come what may. He added that Pakistan and Turkey have a history of brotherly relations and as Muslims, we have over 200 years of memories and triumphs to cherish.

The mayor added that Pakistan and Turkey’s cooperation through valuable joint ventures and sister-city agreements - already in place between Islamabad and Ankara - must continue.
