The Sindh home department issued a notification on Friday, announcing the formation of divisional committees to probe into the matter of fake domiciles and Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs).

According to the notification, the committees will be headed by divisional commissioners and include additional commissioners as well as a grade-19 officer, whose selection will be approved by the Sindh chief secretary.

The committees, the notification states, will check the records of domiciles and PRCs issued over the past 10 years and identify any individuals suspected of having fake domiciles or PRCs. They will then submit their recommendations to the home department within a month.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah ordered a probe into the matter after the opposition accused the provincial government of issuing thousands of fake domiciles and PRCs.

According to sources in the government, who asked not to be named, 50,000 fake domiciles and PRCs have been issued across 29 districts of Sindh.
