Karachi imposes ban on littering

KARACHI:

The city administration imposed a ban on throwing garbage out of vehicles at places other than the designated spots. A notification issued on Thursday stated that the ban would be intact for two months, until September 5. Deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners have been authorised to take action against violators with the help of the relevant SSP, booking them under Section 188 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Earlier, On June 6, the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) managing director had stated that the monsoon season was about to commence, thus the SSWMB had launched an awareness campaign for citizens for restraining them from dumping waste in other places than the designated point and had requested the authorities to impose a ban on it. The measure was taken to avoid any untoward situation during the monsoon season.
