A joint venture of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) has tested, completed and injected development well Mela 07 into the production stream, says a press release. The well is located in Kohat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Currently, gas is being supplied to the main grid of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited’s network. The Mela well 07 was drilled and tested using OGDC’s in-house expertise. The well was drilled down to the depth of 5,095 metres, with the target of testing the hydrocarbon potential of Datta formation. The zone is currently producing 427 barrels of crude oil and 5 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas with flow pressure of 1,780 psi. The Mela oil and gas field was discovered in September 2006. The newly injected development well would add to the hydrocarbon reserves base of OGDC, PPL, GHPL and the country besides bringing significant savings to the exchequer through import substitution.
