Bab-e-Lahore to be completed this month

Workforce building city gate at Thokar Niaz Baig to be increased

LAHORE:

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has announced that the Bab-e-Lahore project will be completed by the end of the current month.

On directives of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, LDA Director General Ahmad Aziz Tarar has instructed the officials concerned to increase workforce for swift completion of the project. He was speaking to LDA Chief Engineer Habibullah Randhawa and Project Director Aqrar Hussain during a briefing about the project.

Bab-e-Lahore is a 60-foot tall and 130-foot wide gate being built at Thokar Niaz Baig, one of the busiest entry points of the city. The gate will welcome commuters entering the city from then Lahore-Islamabad Motorway and Multan Road.

It was highlighted in the meeting that 80% development work has been completed. The project is planned in a way that no hurdle was created in the flow of traffic. Besides construction of the monumental gate, beautification work will be done under the project.

The project was designed by the Infrastructure Development Authority, while the LDA is carrying out the development work and consultation services are being provided by the National Engineering Services Pakistan.

As per the authority’s estimate, the project will be completed at a cost of Rs250 million. Development work on the project was started last year.

Meanwhile, the Town Planning Wing of the authority conducted an operation against illegal constructions in different areas of the provincial capital. LDA officials demolished illegal structures in Johar Town, Faisal Town and Mustafa Town areas.
