Two ‘robbers’ killed in encounters

Police say deceased were nominated in several cases

Two suspected robbers were killed and another was injured in police encounters in Batala Colony and Razaabad areas on Tuesday.

Police said the men who were killed were nominated in several criminals cases registered in different police stations. They had fled after a robbery and were killed during exchange of fire with the Dolphin Squad and Batala Colony police.

Sunni Ahmed and his wife were returning home at dawn after purchasing medicines when four robbers on two motorcycles snatched Rs11,000 and mobile phones from them and fled towards Hilal Road.

A patrolling team of Dolphin Squad signaled the suspects on a motorbike to stop near Ganda Khooh Chowk. The dacoits opened fire at the police when they were chased.

On the call of the Dolphin Squad, the Batala Colony SHO along with Inspector Waheed Shahid and other policemen reached the spot and chased the robbers.

Police cordoned off the area and encircled the suspects, but they continued firing at the officials.

Police returned fire, killing 35-year-old Asif, son of Abdul Hameed, and his accomplice Adnan Majeed, son of Abdul Hameed. Asif was a resident of Allahiabad area of Karamatabad, while Adna was a resident of Chak No 80GB.

SSP Operation Syed Ali Raza Bukhari stated that Asif was involved in 30 cases, including murder and robbery.

The official said he had been released from prison after serving a two-year sentence.

Adnan has a record of more than 10 cases of robbery.

Batala Colony police shifted the bodies of the slain dacoits to a hospital for postmortem and registered a case against them under the provisions of police encounter and robbery.

Meanwhile, Tahir alias Tahiri, who had escaped after snatching a motorcycle and cash from Shakeel Ahmed at Tilewala Chowk in the area of Razaabad police station was arrested after being injured in an encounter and shifted to a hospital.
