LAHORE:

A woman was gang-raped by four suspected robbers in Gujjarpura.

The victim works as an assistant to Doctor Muhammad Anwar at his private clinic in Saggian village. On her way back home at night, she was assaulted by the suspected robbers near the village.

Anwar, while narrating the incident to The Express Tribune, said that he worked at the X-ray ward of Lahore Mayo Hospital and ran a private clinic part-time in Saggian village.

The victim was his neighbour and was employed as an assistant at the clinic.

On Wednesday night, they closed down their clinic and left for home. On their way, four armed men intercepted them along the fields near the village.

They made them hostage at gun point, looted valuables from them and took the victim to the fields where they assaulted her, he said. The assaulters also took away the keys of their vehicle while fleeing from the scene and threatened to kill them if they made noise, he said.

The case was narrated to police in the wee hours and a case has been registered.

The inspector general of Punjab Police Shoib Dastaghir has taken notice of the incident and ordered CCPO Lahore Zulfiqar Hameed to take action against the assaulters and submit a report before him.

Reportedly, Lahore, despite being the hub of policing initiative and government spending for law and order, seemed to have failed miserably to control crime as robbers’ looting spree continued unabated during the ongoing year like every year.

Robbers during recent months have deprived citizens of their valuables in houses, streets, shops, shopping plazas, outside ATMs, inside restaurants, on peripheries, in posh areas, main roads, entry and exit points of the city.

They have shot those who offered resistance during the robberies, leaving many citizens injured. The robbers have also killed policemen in the past.

Big robberies involving millions of rupees have also been reported during the ongoing year.
