No one will be allowed to encroach garbage transfer stations (GTS) and strict action will be taken against the offenders, said Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Tuesday.

He said this during a meeting with local government secretary Roshan Ali Shaikh, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) managing director Kashif Gulzar and other officials.

Gulzar informed Shah that some GTS in the city were illegally occupied by encroachers.

"Sindh government will not allow anyone to occupy even a single inch of land illegally and all the encroachments should be forcefully removed," said Shah, adding that all the law enforcement agencies, district administrations and relevant departments would be instructed to cooperate with the SSWMB to clear the GTS from encroachments and take action against encroachers.

The local government minister further stated that special grants and facilities would be provided to the SSWMB for the purpose.

He also called for establishing more GTS, accelerating the door-to-door collection of garbage and running a proper awareness campaign on media regarding the matter.

Moreover, the provincial minister instructed the officials to design and implement a joint strategy before the commencement of the monsoon season.

Shah added that the SSWMB would collect offals from every area during Eidul Azha and transport the waste to landfill sites, while all district municipal corporations were directed to establish a common slaughtering point in their respective areas.
