ISLAMABAD: Civic authorities of the federal capital plan to install the foundation and other pre-fabricated parts of a steel, pedestrian walkway over Constitution Avenue this weekend, with the entire project scheduled to be completed in the first week of July.

For this purpose, the avenue will remain closed for traffic for around 24 hours between Saturday (today) and Sunday (tomorrow)

Capital Development Authority officials on Friday said that they have been constructing a pedestrian bridge at the Pak Secretariat on Constitution Avenue in the Red Zone of the federal capital for Rs39 million.

Most of the metal sections of the bridge are being fabricated at a dedicated facility while the foundations for the bridge were laid at the site.

With the foundation casting process complete, officials said that they intend to install the pre-fabricated parts of the bridge this weekend.

For this purpose, the necessary parts have been deposited at the site while heavy machinery - such as cranes to lift the pieces into place, have also reached the site.

The CDA official said that they have planned to install the bridge over the weekend so that those who have to pass through the avenue or who work at the myriad of government offices nearby are not disturbed.

After consulting the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), they said that work on erecting the bridge will commence on Saturday evening.

To prevent any untoward incident, the traffic police will keep Constitution Avenue closed for all kinds of traffic from 6 pm on Saturday To 6 pm on Sunday.
