LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Finance Hashim Jawan Bakht on Friday said that no discrimination was made against any of the cities in the provincial budget 2020-21.

Speaking to the media after the assembly session, he stated that social sector investment was unavoidable in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. “Lahore was on the top of the list for allocations made for protecting people from coronavirus.”

He added, “If hospitals were given equal importance similar to infrastructure development projects, then the situation to control Covid-19 would be altogether different.”

He mentioned that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government activated Lahore and other development authorities of the province for the infrastructure development projects, besides promoting Public Private Partnership (PPP) for infrastructure projects.

He further said that the construction of southern loop of Lahore Ring Road under PPP, at a cost of Rs10 billion, was already approved.

He highlighted that the work on modern public hospital announced in the previous budget 2019-20 would be started in the current budget 2020-21. “Furthermore, work on the missing facilities in the hospitals was already started before the budget”.
