Public Service Commission: ‘Clerk mafia’ has taken over

Petitioner’s application was rejected by a clerk without orders.

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) to allow the petitioner to sit the examination for the post of Planning Department deputy director.

The petition was filed by Bilal Shaukat who contended that the PPSC rejected his application for the advertised post on the grounds that his experience certificate had not been signed by the authorities concerned.

A PPSC deputy director (legal) appeared before the court on Thursday and said that the petitioner had not approached any PPSC officer. He said that his application had been rejected by a clerk.

Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan remarked that it appeared that the ‘clerk mafia’ had taken over the PPSC. The judge observed, “The PPSC is responsible for conducting examinations for grade 17.

Unfortunately, its working is in bad condition.”

Justice Khan further remarked that the PPSC was in the hands of inexperienced people. “They are managing and monitoring Punjab government employees above grade 17 yet are working irresponsibly”.

Allowing the petition, the judge directed the PPSC secretary to entertain the petitioner’s application and allow him to sit the examination for the advertised post within a week.
