A judicial magistrate at the Model Town Courts on Thursday rejected two post-arrest bail applications filed by a French national in two cases where he is accused of writing bad cheques.
Nauman Rasheed and Ali Anwar filed complaints at Old Anarkali police station stating that cheques of Rs1.25 million and Rs0.5 million given to them by Phillipe Jean Marie had been dishonoured. The cases were registered under Section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Rasheed and Anwar said they had given Marie money to get visas for France as he said he was an official at the French embassy. However, they said, he did not get them the visas. They asked for their money back and were given cheques which bounced when they tried to cash them.
The complainants lodged the FIR when Marie had already been arrested by Sarwar Road police for liquor smuggling. Police had arrested him in the Cantonment area carrying 100 bottles of liquor.
