Naan makers to increase prices

The rate of the 40kg sack of fine flour has increased to Rs5,000 from Rs4,300

RAWALPINDI: Flour prices in the garrison city have increased after which flatbread or naan makers have also called for an increase in prices.

A 40 kilogramme (kg) sack of wholegrain flour was selling for Rs4,400 while it was available in Rs4,000 last week.

Similarly, the rate of the 40kg sack of fine flour has increased to Rs5,000 from Rs4,300, which is an Rs700 increase. Meanwhile, the price of a 20kg sack of fine flour has escalated to Rs1,110 from Rs805.

Saleem Awan, head of the naan makers’ representative body, Naanbai Association, said that he along with other office-bearers of the association held a meeting with the Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anwarul Haq after the recent surge in flour prices.

He added that the association had demanded that the DC increase the prices of flatbread after a dramatic hike in flour prices.
