KARACHI: The Kalakot police requested on Saturday an anti-terrorism court (ATC) to restore a case pertaining to an attack on the police for hearing.

The police moved the court to restore the case against notorious Lyari gang leader Uzair Baloch and set a date for it.

The court accepted the request and issued production orders for Baloch.

According to the police, Baloch was arrested in 2016 and was given into military custody under the Army Act and Official Secret Act 1923 on April 11, 2017.

The gangster, who has been nominated in over 54 cases pertaining to murder and other criminal activities, has confessed to several crimes.

Court seeks witnesses

Another ATC ordered relevant authorities to produce the witnesses in a case pertaining to the provision of medical facilities to terrorists.

The accused Dr Asim Hussain, Anis Qaimkhani, Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar and MNA Qadir Patel did not appear before the court during the hearing.

Their counsels submitted pleas seeking exemption from appearing in court, with Patel's lawyer claiming that the MNA was in Islamabad to attend the National Assembly session.

The court accepted the exemption requests, seeking the presence of the witnesses on the next hearing and adjourned the hearing till July 25.
