ISLAMABAD: Karachi Company Police in Islamabad arrested a software engineer Usman Butt and registered a case against him on the complaint of a mass communication student, who accused the former of kidnapping, blackmail and rape.

According to police, the accused confessed to the crimes in his initial statement given to the police.

A young girl, BN*, told the police that she got acquainted with Butt on social media where he had introduced himself as 'Captain Usman Butt'. She stated that Butt lured her to Islamabad on the pretext of a job but then drugged and raped her. Butt allegedly also took photos of her during the assault and used those to blackmail her and keep her in his house for two months, continuing to rape her during this time. He also took Rs200,000 from her bank account, said the victim.

Karachi Company Police SHO Saleem Raza told The Express Tribune that Butt had stolen the identity of a certain Captain Usman Butt and was using the false identity on social media. Raza said in his initial statement, Butt confessed to raping the complainant for two months and told the police that he had rented the house in which he was forcibly keeping her.

In her statement, BN told the police that she traveled from Azad Kashmir to Islamabad in search of the employment opportunity that 'Captain' Butt promised her. When she arrived at his house in Sector G-9/2 he offered her juice after which she lost consciousness.

Upon regaining consciousness she found herself with her clothes off and the realisation that she had been sexually assaulted, she said in her statement. The juice was drugged, she said, adding that Butt continued to force himself on her and kept her in the house for two months. BN told the police that Butt threatened to upload pictures that he had taken while she was drugged and exposed if she dared to protest or make noise to alert anyone.

It was only after much difficulty that I managed to escape his clutches and reach the police station, said BN.

Butt is a software engineer and works with different companies online, said SHO Raza. The police have registered a case against Butt and have him under arrest.
