RAWALPINDI: Six officials of Adyiala Jail are facing departmental action for facilitating visit of families for some very influential prisoners, sources in prison told The Express Tribune on Wednesday.

Rawalpindi Region Prisons DIG Shaukat Feroze is heading the investigation himself, sources said, adding that investigation team has acquired the footage of close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the central prison.

Punjab government had imposed a ban on visitors in jail after the coronavirus outbreak. Subsequently, in Adiyala Jail too, people were barred from meeting prisoners.

However, Assistant Superintendent Imran Riaz allegedly facilitated meeting of some VIP prisoners with their families a few days ago. DIG Feroze, soon after getting a report about the incident, ordered departmental action against six officials including Riaz.
