‘Thousands of jobs given against merit in Sindh’

MQM-P says Sindh govt is treating city-dwellers as Modi treats Muslims

KARACHI: Thousands of jobs in Karachi, Hyderabad, and other urban areas were given to people against merit, claimed Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan's (MQM-P) deputy convener Kunwar Naveed Jameel.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, he claimed that the committee probing the matter of fake domiciles, which was formed following a notification issued by the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on May 26, to probe the issue of fake domiciles, was not formed on the basis of merit either.

Jameel implied that the bureaucracy in Sindh issued fake domiciles to people under a planned conspiracy to violate the rights of the citizens of Karachi.

"The Sindh government is following the same policy to deal with the citizens of urban areas of the province, as the [Narendra] Modi government [in India] is following against Muslims," he alleged.

Meanwhile, MQM-P MPA Khawaja Izharul Hassan maintained that no one, including the Sindh CM, had inquired about the issuance of fake domiciles for five years, in the hopes that the courts would make a decision about it.

"The government has committed contempt of court by forming a committee to investigate the issue of fake domiciles. The notification issued was illegal and a tactic to affect judicial action," he insisted.

Pointing out that the positions of Grade 1 to 15 were the right of local citizens according to the Services Act, he questioned why the citizens of Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Nawabshah were not given these jobs.

"MQM-P wants to establish a fair system for all, where the employees are appointed on merit," he said.

He further appealed to the National Accountability Bureau to expand its investigation into the corruption of billions of rupees, while asking the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of this injustice against the people of Karachi and other urban areas, which had been carried out for the last 40 years.
