The popularity of foreign tv series in Pakistan has ignited a debate over its impact on the local entertainment industry, leaving some encouraged by the competition and others irked.

The latest personality to take part in the discussion is Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, who previously held information ministry, shared his two-cents on the airing of Turkish drama series Dirilis: Ertugrul.

"Surprised on PTV Home Official taking pride in other countries productions," he said in a tweet. "You guys must focus on Pakistani productions otherwise foreign dramas will ruin them [local productions]."

"It's always cheap to import foreign dramas but this will have devastating long term effects on our programming," he added.

Since the airing of the much-talked-about drama, celebs and producers alike have shared their thoughts on how Ertugrul might or might not affect the local shows and productions.
