Excise dept collects Rs64.4b in taxes

Chawla claimed that under the system, citizens could register vehicles, pay taxes without putting themselves at risk

KARACHI: Over Rs64.4 billion was collected by the Sindh excise and taxation department in the current fiscal year, between July, 2019, and April, 2020, revealed a department spokesperson on Saturday.

Elaborating on the break-up of the taxes, the spokesperson said that Rs5.337 million was collected in motor vehicle taxes, Rs52.411 million in infrastructure taxes, Rs487.165 million in professional taxes, Rs203.2 million in cotton fees, Rs1.822 billion in property tax and Rs59.977 million in entertainment duties, along with other taxes.

Meanwhile Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla stated since the lockdown has reduced tax collection, the department had introduced an online system to facilitate taxpayers.

Chawla claimed that under the system, citizens could register vehicles, make transfers and pay other taxes without putting themselves at risk of contracting coronavirus. He further added that in order to do so, citizens could register themselves at http://taxportal.excise.gos.pk.
