FAISALABAD: Two women allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents on Tuesday.

Police said 18-year-old Khadija of Noorpur was scolded by her family over a domestic issue. In a fit of rage, she ended her life by hanging herself with a rope in her house.

In another incident, 28-year-old Sumaira Bibi of Shahpur Garh swallowed poisonous pills when her family elders reprimanded her over a minor issue. She was rushed to a hospital, but she died on the way. Meanwhile, 28-year-old Qamar Riaz of Mohallah Baghwala Jhang sprinkled petrol on his body and set himself ablaze after quarreling with his family members. He was shifted to a local hospital from where he was referred to Allied Hospital Faisalabad due to his critical condition.

Meanwhile, Saddar Tandlianwala police claimed to have arrested a man on Tuesday on the charge of killing his wife. Police said Muradan Bibi of Chak No 376GB was found dead in her house two days ago.

The victim’s family members claimed that she committed suicide. Police took Fazal Abbas, spouse of the deceased, into custody. The accused confessed to killing his wife. He told the police that he married Muradan Bibi 20 years ago, and they had five children. He added that he and his wife used to quarrel over domestic issues and he had become fed up with her. Therefore, he suffocated her to death, with the help of his accomplice, Afzaal, when she was sleeping.
