SUKKUR: The Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers Association (SALUTA) continued to protest on Thursday the establishment of a quarantine centre in the varsity's commerce department.

Registering their opposition, SALUTA president Dr Ghulam Ali Mallah and general secretary Prof Iftikhar Ali Ghumro claimed that the Khairpur district administration had set up the quarantine centre without obtaining approval from the relevant authority, showing complete disregard for institutional sanctity.

They further said that the move also violated the standard operating procedures pertaining to the coronavirus as the guidelines stressed establishing quarantine facilities at a considerable distance from residential areas, while the university was just 100 metres away from the professors and employees' colony.  The teachers appealed to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to take notice of the violation.
