Price control magistrates conducted raids at 532 locations in the provincial capital and found price control violations at 119 points. They slapped penalties of around Rs400,000 on profiteers and arrested several of them for not adhering to price regulations.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Danish Afzal highlighted that the district administration is taking stern action against profiteers. All persons arrested on profiteering charges would remain in jail for two days. The price control magistrates have been directed to monitor the auction process at main fruit and vegetable markets and commodity prices in the city.
“The government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against profiteering,” he maintained.
The deputy commissioner had instructed the price control magistrates to take strict action against shopkeepers and vendors who are not displaying pricelists prominently. The price control magistrates were urged to ensure strict implementation of the price list display orders.
An official report indicated that earlier the district administration had conducted 480 inspections and found violations at 77 points.
