Punjab minister takes notice of sanitary worker’s death

Authorities have ensured immediate provision of ration along with monetary assistance to the victim's family

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Ejaz Alam Augustine on Sunday took notice of an accident that claimed the life of a sanitary worker in Gujranwala and directed the authorities to conduct transparent investigation into the incident.

On Friday, a driver of Kotwali police crushed a sanitary worker of Gujranwala Waste Management Company along with a passerby near Khayali Gate.

The worker, Ashiq Masih, was on his routine duty when he was severely injured in the accident. He was referred for treatment to Lahore owing to his serious condition, where he succumbed to the injuries.

On the directives of the minister, representatives of the district administration visited the residence of Ashiq Masih and expressed their condolence to the bereaved family.

The provincial minister was informed by the police that the driver had been arrested and a case had been registered against him.

Moreover, the authorities have ensured immediate provision of ration along with monetary assistance to the victim's family.

They also assured family about the employment of the victim’s son in the department and immediate payment of dues.

Augustine said legal action would be taken against the driver who committed criminal negligence.
