The South sessions court was hearing the plea filed by Advocate Liaquat Ali Khan, in which he maintained that he was going home from court on April 15 when police officials at a picket near Punjab Chowrangi stopped him.
He claimed that though he informed them that he was a lawyer, showing his card as proof, they did not listen and took him to the police station in SHO Agha Aslam's car.
Claiming that he was kept in illegal custody, Khan moved the court to pass orders for the registration of cases against SHO Aslam and his subordinate officials, while asking for security.
The court sought replies from Sindh IGP Mahar, South DIG, and complaint cell SSP while issuing them notices for April 25.
Robbers remanded
Meanwhile, another local court handed over three accused to the police on a four-day physical remand in a case pertaining to robbing a mobile market.
Pirabad police presented the suspected robbers, namely Amir Ali, Saleem Khan, and Ehsaan, before West judicial magistrate Asif Ali Abbasi at Karachi city court.
The investigation officer alleged that the suspects had carried out a robbery worth thousands of rupees, requesting the court to approve the suspects' remand for further investigation. The court accepted the request and granted a four-day physical remand of the accused.
Magistrate Abbasi also sought a report of the items confiscated from the possession of the accused and directed the police to arrest other suspects.
Citizens released
Separately, a local court ordered the release of citizens arrested for lockdown violations against the surety of Rs5,000 each.
Over 100 citizens were presented by the police at Karachi City Court.
No method has yet been devised for the submission of bail surety for lockdown violations. The citizens had gathered outside banks for the submission of surety amounts, while no safety measures were followed during the procedure.
At least 1,500 citizens have been arrested for lockdown violations so far.
