Man beats daughter-in-law to death

Father-in-law assaults woman for refusing to do household chores

KARACHI: A man allegedly beat his daughter-in-law to death after she refused to do household work at a house near Ghausia Chowk in Orangi Town on Thursday.

The police and rescue workers arrived at the spot after being informed of the assault and shifted the woman to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

The deceased was identified as 27-year-old Fatima, wife of Mubarak. According to the police, her father-in-law, Fazal Kareem, began punching and kicking her when she refused to do domestic chores in the house.

The suspect fled from the spot after committing the crime. However, the police have registered the case on behalf of the deceased's father, Shamim, and are carrying out further investigations.

Bodies found

Separately, the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police found the body of a man from a house in Shahnawaz Nusrat Bhutto Colony.

They transferred the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. The deceased was identified as Amir, 50.

The police claimed that he was a drug addict who had apparently died of a drug overdose. However, they are awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death.

Separately, the body of a young man was found from Sector 5-D within the limits of the Surjani Town police. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities and later to the morgue for identification.

Though the identity of the deceased could not immediately be ascertained, the police suspected that he had died of a drug overdose. Further investigation is underway.
