Police catch robbers red-handed

Police later entered the bungalow and arrested one of the robbers hiding in a bathroom

KARACHI: Darakhshan Police caught two robbers, from a group of three, red-handed on Tuesday morning, as they were committing a burglary at a bungalow in Defence Housing Authority, Phase V. However, their accomplice fled the scene.

The bungalow's owner, Dr Zafar Iqbal, a retired army officer, had informed the police of the robbery after three armed men broke into his house. Following this, a police party, in four mobiles, reached the place of the incident and surrounded the bungalow.

Police later entered the bungalow and arrested one of the robbers hiding in a bathroom. Meanwhile, the other two opened fire on police and attempted to flee. Police, however, chased them, exchanged fire and managed to catch one of them.

Speaking to the The Express Tribune, Darakhshan Police Station SHO Inspector Azam Kopang said that the arrested robbers have been identified as Muhammad Shahid and Ahmed Rasheed, who belong to Rawalakot. He said that two mobile phones and as many pistols and watches, besides Rs25,000, were seized from the possession of the arrested robbers.

The police have registered a case against the arrested robbers and are carrying out raids to track down and arrest their third partner.
