Muneezae Hassan on her journey into the beauty industry

April 06, 2020

Muneezae Hassan is a wife and mother to three beautiful sons, a home maker and someone trying to make her mark in Pakistan’s beauty industry. Even as a little girl, Muneezae always enjoyed playing with make-up and getting ready. During the later years of her education, Muneezae also had the opportunity to work for Clarins for a short period. And later her trip to Morocco set her off on Maison D’Argan’s journey.

What inspired you to open a Moroccan spa, and how has your journey been so far in this field?

On a visit to Morocco I was really intrigued to experience the Moroccan hammam which I had heard so much about. After the experience I was inspired to open something similar in Pakistan so that I can share what I was able to experience with others. Having the Moroccan hammam through their Argan based products was an experience like no other which is why I just had to bring it to Pakistan starting with Lahore. The Maison D Argan journey has not been without its challenges. As a housewife I had no experience of the corporate or business world so I was actually stepping into the unknown. However by the grace of Allah I have been blessed with amazing support from my husband who has been a rock for me every step of the way, and I have to mention our business partners who now feel like family. BMPR for giving us such an amazing platform in show casing the Maison D Argan experience, our social media partners REBRAND who have worked night and day to make sure we realise our vision through the social media platform, and Waqas Ashraf who has been there since the start guiding us every step of the way.

What kind of interesting spa services and products is your salon offering?

This is a really good question, because when we started off, all we wanted to do was offer the Moroccan hammam experience, however during our research we realised that we can infuse Argan oil in most of the regular services thus our name Maisan D Argan – House of Argan.  Our signature services are all based on pure organic products from Morocco which include Argan based products as well as the Ghassoul clay and Beldi soap. We are strong believers in ensuring our treatments are of high quality and high purity which is why sometimes people may think we are a bit pricey but the value offered is much more. This uniquely places us amongst other salons whereby we are focused on authentic Moroccan services as well as products.

What are the services and products your spa has to offer?

Right now we are more focused on the holistic services and treatments. That being said our staff is very well trained and keeping up with new trends, whether it’s hair or make-up we’ve got you covered.

How is your spa different from any other spa in the city which offers the same services?

The Lahore spa scene is simply fantastic and we want nothing more than to be considered as one of the go to places. Our focus will always revolve around a Moroccan experience with Argan based services that will give our clients a unique experience not only from the service but also the environment we have tried to create of peace, calm and a homely feel where one can come to just leave the stresses of this world behind and relax.

What are the challenges that come with your job?

Like any self-made business our challenges are not unique in terms of exposure as well as gaining the trust of prospective clients to come give us a try. And on a personal front being a mother of three growing boys adds to that mix. However, Allah has been really kind and where there have been challenges there has also been an equal amount of support to get through those challenges and having happy satisfied customers makes up for all the trials one faces on a day to day basis.

What is your greatest professional and personal strength?

My philosophy on both fronts is pretty simple. Be honest, kind and helpful wherever and whenever you can. The world is a difficult place as it is so our job is not to make it more difficult for others but to make sure we can make it as easy as possible. One should also focus on motivating, encouraging and helping others and if you cannot do that then the least you can do is be kind and put a smile on someone’s face.

In your opinion, what social stigma does society need to get over?

I still believe women do not get their dues in our society and it’s not about being equal or better than men, it’s about being treated with the same respect and dignity that we deserve. We have our own place in society and should not have to constantly prove ourselves worthy of respect. I hope InshAllah that we as a society reach that point where both men and women are respected equally.

What is the most gratifying part about your job?

Very simply put, when our customer goes away smiling and having experienced something new and wonderful from our services, that’s basically the most rewarding feeling in the world.
