Man dies, 10 injured as LPG container explodes

Parts of the truck fell into a nearby parking stand, causing several vehicles to catch fire

LAHORE: A man died and 10 other people, including a woman and a traffic warden, were injured after an LPG container exploded near Shahdara Mor on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Zahid Abbass, 65. Traffic Warden Alamgir was among the injured.

The truck carrying the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) container overturned on GT Road and exploded with a loud blast.

Eye-witnesses said accessories of the tanker were scattered over a large area after the explosion. Some parts of the truck fell into a nearby parking stand, causing several vehicles to catch fire.

Heavy contingents of police and rescue workers rushed to the spot. City police and traffic officials cordoned off the vicinity for traffic as well public.

Rescue 1122 firefighters launched a search operation for victims along with dowsing the blaze. They shifted the injured to Mayo Hospital.
