RAWALPINDI: An anti-narcotics court in Rawalpindi on Wednesday put off the hearing in the assets case of former National Assembly member
and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi until March 30.

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has called for freezing the assets of the PML-N leader who was convicted in the ephedrine case.

Abbasi was found guilty by a Controlled Narcotic Substances court of selling 500 kilogrammes of ephedrine quota worth Rs7 billion illegally to narcotics smugglers.

He had officially obtained the quota for his pharmaceutical company Gray Pharmaceutical in 2010. The trial court had also imposed a fine of Rs1 million on the PML-N leader. However, he was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the ephedrine case after the Lahore High Court (LHC) suspended the sentence.
