ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Sunday barred MNA Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir from boarding a Kabul-bound flight at the Islamabad International Airport. The FIA officials said the MNAs could not be allowed to travel abroad because their names are on the Exit Control List (ECL).

Both the parliamentarians were traveling to Afghanistan to attend the oath-taking ceremony of President Ashraf Ghani scheduled today (Monday). President Ghani was recently declared the winner in last year’s Afghan elections.

North Waziristan MNA Mohsin Dawar in a tweet said that they have been barred from boarding their flight to Kabul, following which the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior tweeted that upon the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Ministry of Interior has issued a one-time permission to both the lawmakers for traveling to Afghanistan.

The special assistant on interior said in a tweet that “Today parliamentarians @mjdawar Ali Wazir were stopped by the FIA to fly to Kabul for being on ECL. PM @ImranKhanPTI has instructed the MoI to grant one-time permission to both to travel to Kabul to attend oath taking ceremony of @ashrafghani”.

The Ministry of Interior in a statement on its official twitter handle said that “As per the instructions of the Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI, One time permission has been granted by MOI to MNA @mjdawar and @Aliwazirna50 to travel to Afghanistan.”
