KARACHI: Three of the flyovers in the Sher Shah Suri Signal Free Corridor were inaugurated by Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Saturday.

While Prime Minister Imran Khan had been scheduled to inaugurated the federally-funded projects, he was unable to visit the metropolis due to bad weather conditions in Islamabad.

Khan had previously postponed a visit to Karachi in February due to his busy schedule, delaying the inauguration till March 7.

Talking to the media after the inauguration, Ismail said that the flyovers have been opened for the convenience of Karachiites. "The development of the country's economic hub (Karachi) and the rest of the province is among PM Khan's priorities, making sure that its dwellers enjoy the basic facilities to which they are entitled," he said.

Maintaining that the projects are evidence of Khan's interest in improving Karachi's facilities, he claimed that the city's landscape will be changed by projects worth Rs162 billion that had been announced by PM Khan.

He further announced that additional work in the surroundings of the flyovers would be completed within six to eight weeks.

The signal-free corridor, comprising a total of six flyovers, extends from Surjani Town to Lasbela, while the inaugurated flyovers hover above Sakhi Hassan Chowrangi, Five Star Chowrangi and KDA. It had been announced in 2018 after recommendations by the Karachi Transformation Committee.
