Governor for action against harassment, corruption at varsities

Shah Farman says varsities failing to implement syndicate decisions will have to face action

PESHAWAR: Harassment, mismanagement and corruption will not be tolerated in public universities, said the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Shah Farman on Wednesday.

The K-P governor was addressing the oath-taking ceremony of Senior Alumni Association of the Islamia College.

Farman said there should be a zero tolerance policy against corruption, mismanagement and harassment in universities. Teachers and educated people are involved in harassment of female students which is matter of great concern, he added.

The governor directed all provincial public varsities to bring improvement in educational standards. He warned that strict action would be taken against the varsities failing to implement decisions of their syndicate meetings.

All public sector universities in the province should have to improve management affairs and would have to provide audit report of their financial matters, he added.

Governor Shah Farman the Islamia College’s occupied property will be cleared which could become a source of income for the institution.

Speaking to media the Islamia College Vice-Chan­cellor Dr Nowshad Khan said that the college had given at least 722 kanal lands to the University of Peshawar and Agriculture University of Peshawar. Around 967 kanal land of Islamia College in Charsadda had been occupied by encroachers. Dr Nawshad said they will soon provide the land record to the government for clearing it from land grabbers.
