K-P govt completes 290 mini power stations, 672 more on the cards

CM Mahmood directs identification of issues of power projects related to federal govt

PESHAWAR: The provincial government on Wednesday said it has completed 290 mini hydroelectric power projects in the province and announced construction of 672 more such power units in the next financial year.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan presided over a meeting held to review the performance of Pakhtunkhwa Oil and Gas Company Limited (KPOGCL) and Pakhtunkhwa Energy and Power Development Organisation (PEADO).

The chief minister was informed that as many as 66 Mini Hydel Power Stations (MHPS) will be completed by June this year. The completed power projects have been handed over to locals for an uninterrupted power supply.

The meeting was told that sites have been identified for construction of the 672 more such power stations.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Mahmood stressed on the need for timely completion of all power projects. He directed to convene a meeting of the divisional and district administrations to remove the obstacles hampering timely completion of the projects.

The chief minister also directed the PEADO officials to identify issues of power projects in the province which are related to federal government so that it could be taken up with Prime Minister.

CM Mahmood expressed his displeasure over the slow pace of solarization of district and tehsil headquarters hospital and mosques in the newly merged districts. He directed the relevant authorities to go for alternative means to complete the solarization projects in time. He also directed to introduce reforms in the administrative structure of both KPOGCL and PEADO and take action against the underperforming staff.

K-P Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Adviser to Chief Minister on Energy and Power Himayatullah Khan, the Strategic Support Unit chief Sahibzada Saeed, principal secretary to chief minister, the Energy and Power secretary and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
