Tokyo looks forward to the forthcoming negotiations that will make a steady and constructive progress in order to realise an Afghan-led durable and comprehensive peace, Ambassador Kuninori was quoted as saying.
He reiterated that Japan will continue to actively contribute to peace and stability of Afghanistan in collaboration with the international community.
Washington on Saturday signed a peace deal with the Taliban in Doha, Qatar, laying out a timetable for a full troop withdrawal from Afghanistan within 14 months as it seeks an exit from its longest-ever war.
The agreement is expected to lead to a dialogue between the Taliban and the Kabul government that, if successful, could ultimately see an end to the grinding 18-year conflict.
