K-P to set up girls section at Islamia Collegiate School

K-P education minister says Rs1, 000 scholarships for children of merged districts will begin soon

PESHAWAR: The provincial government on Monday announced establishment of girls section at the historical Islamia Collegiate School.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Akbar Ayub Khan made the announcement while addressing the Annual Day function at the Islamia Collegiate School (ICS).

Ayub said that the government was fully aware of the needs and requirements of the school education sector. Girls’ education was key education agenda of the provincial government, he said.

The minister asked the ICS administration to share its requirements so that the provincial government could address them on priority basis. Speaking on the occasion, ICS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Naushad Khan highlighted the history of ICS in the promotion of education in the province.

On the occasion, the ICS Principal Zohra Tauqir presented the annual report of the school, according to which during the 2019 annual examination, ICS got 99.12 per cent results in matriculation examination.  Out of 565 students who appeared in the examination, 364 got top grades, she added.

Meanwhile, the provincial education minister also visited the Orakzai tribal district where he held meetings with local elders and journalists.

The education minister said recruitment of 268 teachers in Orakzai district will be completed by March 1 this year while as many as 616 more teaching posts for the district will be advertised soon. Ayub also announced that Rs1,000 scholarships for children of merged districts will begin soon. Construction of a cadet college in the district will also kick off soon.
