ISLAMABAD: To boost bilateral cultural ties, Ukraine will install a statue of one of its famous poets in a park in the federal capital, while the statue of a Pakistani poet will be put up in a park in Kyiv.

This was disclosed by the Ukrainian Ambassador Volodymyr Lakomov on Friday as the embassy held a concert.

Lakomov said that the cultures of Ukraine and Pakistan are quite close and can be brought even closer by holding cultural programmes.

He added that the Ukrainian government values friendship with Pakistan especially in the economic sector and intends to make further investments in different sectors.

He hoped that work on the project to install statues of poets from each other’s countries in their respective countries will start soon.

Ukraine’s Cultural Attaché Dr Olena said that cultural agreements between Ukraine and Pakistan will pave the way for closer cultural contact between the people of both countries.

I have a keen interest in learning about Pakistan and I have learned the Urdu language, I love Urdu, the attaché said.

Dr Olena added that the magic of sound and music is such that it can be enjoyed beyond traditional borders and boundaries to bring people hailing from different nationalities together.

Through singing, the universal message of love and affection can be spread, Dr Olena added.

Singer Abbas Chaudhry said that his wife is from Ukraine and he loves the culture and music of Ukraine.
