QUETTA: Balochistan Minister for Agriculture Zamrak Khan Achakzai has asked the federal government to turn Quetta-Sibi highway into a dual carriageway to stop loss of lives due to accidents on the road.

“Converting highways of Balochistan into dual carriageways has become inevitable,” he said while addressing inaugural ceremony of historical Sibi Mela which began on Wednesday.

He presented demands on the part of the Balochistan government before President Dr Arif Alvi who was attending the Sibi Mela as the chief guest. Chief Minister Jam Kamal, provincial ministers and MPAs were also present on the occasion.

Welcoming the president, Achakzai said Balochistan is the largest province of the country but there is no dual carriageway due to which fatal incidents occur on a daily basis.

“We request President Dr Arif Alvi to play his role in turning the Quetta-Sibi highway into a dual carriageway by getting the project included in the federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP),” he added.
