The 'skull-breaker challenge' is evidence that the internet can be a vile place.

In their quest to go viral, users create videos that are extremely dangerous and one example is “skull-breaker challenge” which has been spreading on social media platforms.

You can find it on YouTube, Twitter and especially TikTok app, performed chiefly by teenagers.

The skull-breaker challenge is as alarming as the descriptor suggests. It begins with three people standing alongside one another and in a row, the middle person jumps while the other two kick his/her legs out from under causing a dangerous fall.

The video accompanying this tweet by @britishchickAD shows how it works:

In fact, landing on body parts besides your feet can easily land you in the hospital or potentially even the morgue as this Inside Edition segment showed:

Falling like that can be life-threatening and could also cause paralysis or possibly death as severe head trauma could lead to a serious bleed in your brain.

TikTok app does not allow content that is harmful.

The community guidelines for the app state: "We do not promote participation in activities that could lead to harm. We also do not permit users to encourage others to take part in dangerous activities. We do not allow content that promotes self-harm or suicide, but we do allow our users to share their experiences in order to raise awareness about these issues."

However, social media platforms need to do more to stop such videos from spreading.
