K-P to provide 18MW of cheap power to industries

Provincial govt plans construction of four new power projects

PESHAWAR: The provincial government and the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) on Monday signed an agreement for providing power to industries in the province.

The agreement was signed between the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organi­sation (PEDO) and PESCO for providing power to industrial consumers of K-P at the CM Secretariat in Peshawar on Monday.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, who witnessed the signing ceremony, termed the agreement a landmark achievement.

Under the accord, Mahmood said that around 18 megawatts (MW) of cheap power from the Pehur Power Project will be provided to the Gadoon Textile Mills Limited, Cherat Packaging Limited, AG Textile Limited, Premier Chip Board Industries Limited and Cherat Cement Company Limited, which will help revive local industries along with attracting investors and promoting industrialisation in the province.

The wheeling regime will not only generate Rs305 million in revenue every year for the province but will also directly generate some 3,000 jobs.
