ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) does not have sufficient garbage collecting vehicles to pick up the 600 tonnes garbage which is produced daily in the federal capital.

This was stated by the IMC Director Sanitation Sardar Khan Zimri said on Sunday. The official said that garbage collection is managed by a contractor who collects household waste from different residential sectors and even from the rural areas. He said the IMC staff recently collected a large quantity of garbage from Tarnol, Bhara Kahu, Rawal Town, Taramri and other areas located in the rural areas of the federal capital.

While highlighting the issue of heaps of garbage accumulated in Sector G-6, Zimri said that waste collection in the sector is done weekly and blamed residents for dumping garbage openly instead of in the dumpsters placed by the IMC.
