ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s dairy sector has a lot of potential as only 10% of the country’s total milk consumption is processed milk and 90% is raw milk, which comes straight from cows or the buffalos into the market.

This was stated by FrieslandCampina Consumer Products Europe BV Chief Operating Officer Roel F van Neerbos. Responding to a query on why the company chose to invest in Pakistan, the official said that Pakistan has one of the highest milk consumption levels in the world, adding perhaps even the highest. He said that in this regard the Pakistani market offered a lot of opportunities.

He further said that Pakistan is also a growing economy, and its central location offers tremendous export potential to the region. Sharing expansion across the globe, he said that despite having a strong presence in Asia, Middle East and Africa, Pakistan was one of the more important investments made by the company. He said, “We are always on the lookout for future investments, and we continue to invest as we go along.”

He said that the government of Pakistan has been extremely supportive.
